One of the problems with moving averages, or any other trend-following signal, is their inability to hug closely to a trend while still having the desired smoothing effect. Slow moving averages smooth well but are often far from the action, while fast moving averages are overly responsive. Displaced moving averages attempt to remedy this effect. The Moving Average Displaced indictor is created by calculating a simple moving average, and then projecting it in the future by displacing it a given number of days.
