The Directional Movement Plus indicator is calculated from a comparison of the highs on a series of consecutive bars versus the true range.

The Directional Movement Plus indicator measures the upward movement of a market. Many analysts believe an indication of a bullish market occurs when the Directional Movement Plus crosses over the Directional Movement Minus. This signals an opportunity to establish a long position. Conversely, an indication of a bearish market occurs when the Directional Movement Plus crosses below the Directional Movement Minus. This provides an opportunity to establish a short position and/or liquidate any existing long positions.
