To indicate a change in price trend, the Demand Index combines volume and price data. This indicator fluctuates around the zero line. If the indicator crosses the zero line from below, then the buying pressure is greater than the selling pressure.
The Demand Index offers many types of signals:
- a change in a price trend is indicated when there is a divergence between the indicator and the price;
- a change in a price trend is also indicated when the indicator crosses the zero line;
- a weak price movement that will not last long is indicated when the indicator stays near the zero line for a period of time;
- a major top or bottom is indicated when there is a large long-term divergence between the indicator and the price.
